Yeah, this has been coming for a long time but I have heard from clients that the new widget block editor is a little maddening. Especially for people who have shied away from using Gutenberg and choose other page editors. It’s okay, you are NOT alone and there is a way out.
You can install the Classic Widget plugin, which will restore the widget editing back to the old fashioned method. Sort of how the Classic Editor plugin allowed people to stop using Gutenberg when it was launched a few years ago.
Give the new block editor a try, because it is the “wave of the future” and honestly I took a year to warm up to Gutenberg myself. I know how it feels, but ultimately it is a nice way to edit areas of your site. But you still have a way out…so you can edit your sidebar without wanting to beat up your computer.
