There is a video in my library that will guide you through uploading the child theme & templates you purchased. Make sure to remember where you downloaded the ZIP file from, you will need access to that folder on your computer to complete the initial steps. View the video below to get started or you can follow the written steps (for those who like reading !)
There are a few things to make sure you have in place before getting started:
- Install the Page Builder Framework from the WordPress.org repository.
- Install Elementor (FREE) and Elementor (PRO) – you will need to purchase the PRO version for the style kit, header & footer to function properly. If you have not already purchased, you can do so HERE.
- Install Happy Add-Ons for Elementor (FREE) to gain access to some special icons and design elements for the pre-designed pages.
- Install Classic Widgets (FREE) – this widely used plugin will give you the traditional widget screens (before recent changes). It works smoother and is easier to use for most people and will pull styling from the theme better.
Your original purchased ZIP file contains both theme/template without demo and with. Choose which one you want before getting started, so you know which files to import into your site below.
Once you go through the steps outlined in the video, your site should start to take shape with the new design. You will have a new header, footer and some page styling visible when you view the front-end of your site. There are two choices you have : Install Theme & Templates or Install all Theme & Templates with Demo Content. Choose your adventure and have fun!
Install Theme & Templates
If you just want the core structure of the theme & templates, but do not need the demo content to guide you, this is the right choice. Keep in mind, demo content will come with the Elementor Templates – that is by default, but you won’t bring over any of the demo pages/posts or images.
Install Theme & Templates with Demo Content
Elementor has a wonderful import function for themes & template kits, and that is what we are going to use here. In your original ZIP file there is a folder titled “Theme & Demo Content”. There is a ZIP file in that folder that you need for the steps below. Find it, make note of where it is….and let’s GO!
FIRST STEP – we are going to install the child theme. Having a child theme is important so you can update your core theme (in this case Page Builder Framework) without losing customization in your site (which is saved in the child theme Evangeline).
- Go to Appearance >> Themes
- Click the “Add New” button at the top. Then click the Upload Theme button at the top – and browse to where the Evangeline ZIP file is located. Upload this child theme into your site and activate it.
**You won’t see your site start to take shape yet, this is just the first step!!! Keep going…
SECOND STEP – now we will bring in the demo content, images and template files.
- Go to Elementor >> Tools >> Import/Export Kit tab.
- Click Start Import to bring in the rest of the files **As the next screen shows, make sure you have a backup of your site. Especially if you have any existing content, it will be good to have a safe backup you can restore if you ever need to.
- Click the “Select File” or drag and drop your Evangeline_Demo_Kit.zip into the page.
- The next screen gives you choices on how much you want to import. If you do not want to import demo pages/posts at this point, you can uncheck where it says “Content”. Otherwise, click the NEXT button at the bottom to continue.
- Once the import is complete, your site will start to look like the demo. There are a few final steps (shown below) that we need to complete the process!
Adding Your Own Logo
You will need to upload your own logo into the header by going to Appearance >> Customize >> Header >> Logo. Right at the top you can load up your own logo, and it will populate into the header once you save your changes. If you want to edit the size of the logo, you can do that through the Elementor “Evangeline Header” template under Templates >> Theme Builder.
Create Your Main Navigation
You will need to activate a navigation menu for links to show up at the top. Go to Appearance >> Menus. If you do not have a navigation created, go ahead and set one up. Give it a name (I like Main Navigation) and then add all of the pages you want to show up. Save your changes and your new navigation should populate into the header automatically.
Check out the FAQ section
If you notice any other areas of your site that do not look like the demo, check out my FAQ section with some tips. You probably will find the answer to your question there – otherwise always know you can open a support ticket with my studio.
