WordPress + Elementor Tidbits - You might find an answer to a ? that has stumped you

Mosaic: How to filter your posts in Elementor

Each of the pre-designed areas that show blog posts has its own “filter” where you can show ALL posts, specific categories or other posts that fit any criteria you choose. Below are steps on how to do this for any of the pre-designed areas (the steps will be the same whether you are doing this on the homepage or other template).

FILTER BY INCLUDING POSTS:

  • Right click the module you want to edit so you can view the areas you can edit on the left.
  • Choose Query to view the options on filtering your posts for this module
    • BY CATEGORY : If you want the module to show only posts from a specific category, you would 1. make sure INCLUDE is highlighted and 2. Click the + where it says “Include by” and choose TERM. A new field will show up below where you can start typing the category you want and it will show up in a drop down – choose the one you want and it will populate in the TERM field.
    • BY AUTHOR : Similar to above, you can show posts by specific authors in case you have a blog with multiple writers. The same method applies here except you would choose AUTHOR instead of TERM and start typing the persons name in the field that shows up.
  • Below this area you can sort the posts by date and more.

FILTER BY EXCLUDING POSTS:

  • If you have more than one “post” module on page (like the homepage), you might want to exclude certain posts in a specific module. For example, you have 2 large featured posts at the top – if you place a module below that has all of the other posts you will want to exclude the first TWO posts (the ones mentioned above in this example) so you don’t repeat the same information in the lower module.
  • Choose Query to view the options and click EXCLUDE so it is highlighted.
    • You can tell the module to exclude specific posts, or all posts based on category and/or authors similar to above. Click the + in the EXCLUDE BY field to see the drop down choices.
    • The OFFSET field is where you can dictate how many posts you want this new module to “skip”. This helps prevent this module from showing the same posts as another module on the page. If you tell it to offset “2” then it will skip the first 2 posts and only show the ones after.
  • Any edits you make here will be reflected on the right in the visual editor, so you can always track whether you are making the right choices.

Save your changes before exiting out – but you will notice as you make choices the visual editor on the right will update to reflect those changes. You can verify the filtering is working the way you want before clicking UPDATE to save your changes to the front of the website.
